Children approach clay in so many different ways. Some jump right in with lots of energy, others drift off into a world of their imagination, some are tentative and enjoy working with another who might provide encouragement. Given the opportunity to play, they find their way and grasp onto some element that gives them joy. They respond to the temperature of the clay, the feel of it, the mess (!) , and the freedom. Thank you to the wonderful creative students I shared my afternoon with today at the Dedham Community House teaching hand-building with clay.
