Dedham Square Artist Guild ~ 553 High Street, Dedham, MA

Founded in October 2011, we are Dedham’s first artist cooperative, owned and operated by its 20 members. We provide members of the cooperative a home for their work and opportunity to connect with the community, while striving to enrich the cultural life of all residents, through classes, workshops, art openings and more. The collection of work at the Guild encompasses a diverse style of art, including painting, photography, pottery, jewelry, monotype, wood, glass, textile and much more.

Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9 ~ 45 Central Street, Norwood, MA

Custom Art Framing has been a Norwood fixture since 2003. Julie Vecchio brings years of picture framing expertise to a unique customer-service centered frame shop. In 2007 the shop’s gallery added to it’s focus on affordable artwork by local artists with the creation of Gallery9. With this expansion comes fun and exciting opportunities for artists and art collectors to interact, face to face, with our First Friday Artist Reception series. Currently at Gallery9 and Custom Art Framing you’ll find the most unique designs in custom picture framing, as well as, art classes for kids and adults, workshops, monthly artist events and the most fabulous little art gallery around.

IMG_2591I was at the Fuller Craft Museum to see an exhibit entitled “Game Changers” when I spotted these tiny vases by Sandra Byers. It got me thinking about spring and the kind of vases you can create as bud vases.

IMG_3147These vases above and below were for sale at the Museum of Fine Arts gift shop. The variety of shapes are interesting.

IMG_3148I started making some of my own that I think will make nice gifts for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Shop VASES at the Dedham Square Artist Guild gallery located at 553 Washington Street in Dedham Square, and, Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9 located at 45 Central Street in Norwood, Ma.

Small Business Saturday ~ November 29th

What is Small Business Saturday?
Sandwiched between “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday”, SBS is a day to pledge to “shop small” and support independently owned businesses in the Square and around town. Amex is even offering an added incentive to shop small today!

Why does it matter?
Money spent at a small, independently owned business stays in the same community at a rate of three times more than when it is spent at a chain store. Shopping locally is investing in your community.

Please shop small today at the following shops and galleries who sell my ceramics:

Saying I do

Saying I do

Saying I Do

Saying I do
Is more than saying I love you
It goes beyond describing how my love is true
Because words are not enough to express my love for you.

Saying I do
Is like saying I am here for you
That I am ready to see what the future may bring
Because we are together in everything.

Saying I do
Is saying I am now complete because of you
That the pieces of the puzzle called “my life”
Becomes a beautiful picture called “our love”.

And now I am saying “I DO”
As I walk down the aisle with you
This is a lifetime promise that I will hold
A promise I make until we grow old.

The Gallery Connection ~ Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9

The Gallery Connection ~ Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9

It must have been at least five years ago that I, as a member of the Westwood League of Fine Artists, was given the opportunity to participate in a gallery show in Norwood, MA. I submitted both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional pieces. During the show, the owner of the gallery purchased one of my carved bowls and asked me if I might like to sell some of my work at her shop. This was the beginning of my relationship with Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9.

Today I am bringing over new work: three tumbler/vases in glazes that owner, Julie Vecchio suggested I try. One of the best things about having the opportunity to sell in a gallery is the relationship one has with the person who is selling your work. Over the years, I’ve learned and continue to learn from both Julie and gallery 9’s Kim Morin Weineck to look at my work in new ways and this has made me more of a critical thinker when I examine my own work.

“I dream in fire, but I work in clay.” Arthur Machen

We all have wonderful dreams for our pottery that is nurtured by working in a community of other potters. Our imaginations are enhanced by our conversations with one another and seeing the work that keeps blooming in the studio.

There is so much creative energy and talent at Potters Place that we thought it would be fun to have an evening to talk about where we get our ideas. What inspires us?

I brought one of my spinning top vases to discuss…

I started making my “Spinning Tops” a few years ago when my sister in law told me she was getting a divorce. I started thinking about how out of control life can be, managing your own needs, your kids needs, etc.. I had an image of spinning tops floating up into the air, my head spinning and needing to feel grounded and balanced. I throw these vessels on my wheel as a way of creating balance in my own life when it feels out of control. Like outstretched arms and slightly parted feet, they allow for my voice to be released in a calming peaceful shape that continues to circle around and around but stays still because of the “foot”.

If you were to let one go, would it fall to the ground or would it spin up and away taking your cares with it ? I’d like to think it was the later.

Spinning Tops are exclusive to Custom Art Framing located at 45 Central Street in Norwood, MA
