Westwood Artists, (photographer Karen Cagan, fiber artist Kathy Zola and ceramic artist Lisa W B Walker) arrived at Powisset Farm early on August 27th to set up their stations and begin creating art inspired by the farm.
This was the first Makers Day held at Powisset Farm. It included visual artists as well as music (by My Mothers Moustache), performances (scenes from Shakespeare’s Hamlet by Medfield Gazebo Players), food (baking bread in the kitchen) and interactive kids activities. All artists were inspired by Powisset Farm.
As a ceramic artist, I am inspired by the vegetation that grows at the farm. I gathered herbs and other leaves from the fields, placed them on low fire clay and added colored slips. I love the way the clay captures the texture of a leaf!
I found compositions to create into functional objects in my demonstration … some small dishes and ornaments. My favorite leaves turned out to be a sunflower leaf and a tomato plant’s leafy vine. Other interesting leaves were sage, green bean leaves and parsley.
This collection is still in process, but I will be at the farm with my permanent collection of functional pottery this coming Saturday. My work references nature and leaves; flowers and growth are important elements in my permanent collections. Stop in to say hello and enjoy this beautiful Trustees of the Reservation property.

POWISSET FARM, 37 POWISSET ST, DOVER, MA ~ SATURDAY, APRIL 2ND 1:00-4:00 PM
It’s the last sale of the season for me and I’m looking forward to spending the time at Powisset Farm in the barn chatting with friends and seeping in the beauty of this special place.
Join me and Susan Brum of Hog Wild Pottery today, Saturday, December 5th from 10-2 at Powisset Farm. We will be in the barn located at 37 Powisset Road in Dover, MA. Our friend, Kathy Zola will be with us to sell her handmade knitware. The farm stand will be filled with seasonal veggies and local favorites.
There is nothing I like better then to spend the day at the farm interacting with customers, talking about my functional pottery, enjoying the peacefulness of the environment. This Saturday, August 10th from 10AM to 2PM, I will be at Powisset Farm in Dover, MA rain or shine.
It’s a tax free weekend in Massachusetts, and I’m looking forward to sharing that savings with my customers.
This is the first pottery sale I’ve had at the Powisset Farm Stand this season, but as a shareholder I visit the farm each week (as chronicled in my weekly blog posts about food and pottery) . The farm reminds me of my grandparent’s farm. I love seeing friends at Powisset, talking about the veggies, venturing out to the fields to pick, talk, taste the week’s bounty.
I’ve been working on my “Farmers Bounty” collection. Carving pea tendril vases; creating platters for veggies and dips; combining a deep brown with a pleasing green glaze to recreate what a farmer sees … earth and vegetation.
Mid summer seems the perfect time to host a sale. The days are still filled with sunshine and the fields with summertime veggies like cucumbers for pickles and juicy tomatoes to top with freshly made basil pesto (picnic favorites!).
Stop by and say hello this weekend, enjoy the tax break! and think about the farm to table connection that is best with handmade pottery.
The rain held off and I was able to participate in opening day for Bird Park’s first farm stand today with my fellow potter, Susan Brum. We featured functional pottery under our tent. Moose Hill had a table set up with fresh veggies and an opportunity to join their CSA. It was a wonderful morning spent talking with customers and sharing the food and pottery connection.
Moose Hill is a Trustees of the Reservation property as is Bird Park. Their joined efforts brought the farm stand to East Walpole. It will be open from now until October 5th from 9-12 every Saturday.
Bring friends and family to Powisset Farm at 37 Powisset Street in Dover, MA this Saturday, May 18th from 10am – 3pm to welcome spring at the farm!
